Turkey holds many world records ranging from the unusual, to simply impressive.Here we have put together our favourite Top 10 world records held by Turks. Don’t forget to comment and let us know which one you were most impressed with.

1.WORLDS LONGEST SCUBA DIVE

This record was set by a diver named Cem Karabay. He holds the record for the worlds longest salt water dive after spending nearly 1 week underwater at a beach in Cyprus .The experienced diver was submerged for a total of 142 hours, 42 minutes and 42 seconds

While underwater, Karabay ate and drank with his diver buddies also keeping him entertained by joining him for a game of Backgammon .

2.LARGEST PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION OF BREAD

It’s no secret that bread is a huge part of Turkish cuisine. Freshly baked Turkish bread is eaten with almost every meal, and is essential while eating Meze (appetisers)

So it comes as no surprise that Turkey holds the world record for largest per capita consumption of bread. According to the Guinness World Records, Turkish people eat more than three times their own body weight in bread ANNUALLY. Each individual person eats approximately 104kg of bread each year !  

3. FIRST SOLO TRAVEL USING HUMAN POWER

Erden Eruç holds a world record recognised by the Guinness world records as the  “First solo circumnavigation of the globe using human power” on a journey that took 5 years ,11 days and 12 hours. Eruç used only human powered modes of transport including a row boat, a sea kayak & a bicycle for when he was travelling on land.

The journey travelled covered 66,299 km. Erden is a true inspiration and proves that anything is possible! He also earned himself a spot on Men’s Journal’s 50 Most Adventurous Men.

4.WORLDS BIGGEST NOSE

I actually thought I held this world record, but apparently not.

This record is set by Mehmet Özyürek which was recognised by the Guinness World records. Mehmets nose measures at 8.8cm from the bridge to the tip, and was measured on the Tv show ‘Lo Show dei Record’ in Rome, Italy.

Nobody nose whether anyone will ever beat this record…..(Sorry I had to)

5.FIRST FEMALE COMBAT PILOT

Some may recognise the name Sabiha Gökçen. She is the adopted daughter of great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first President of Turkey.

Born on 21 March 1913, Gökçen became the world’s first female pilot at the age of 23 and is even  recognised as the first female combat pilot by the Guinness world records.

Those that have visited Turkey would have also noticed one of the main airports being named after this legend.

6.MOST CONCRETE BLOCKS BROKEN IN 1 MINUTE

The most concrete blocks broken in 1 minute was achieved by Turkish martial arts professional Ali Bahçetepe on 17th Novenmber 2012. Bahçetepe broke a total of 1175 blocks and is recognised by the Guinesss World Records. 

7.LARGEST FULL BREAKFAST ATTENDANCE 

Every Turk probably thinks they hold this world record judging from the attendance of the annual family Bayram breakfast.However, the largest full breakfast attendance was set in Van, Turkey with a total of 51,793 participants and organised by Van Ticaret ve Sanayi Odasi .

8.TALLEST MAN LIVING IN THE WORLD

This record is set by Sultan Kosen from Ankara, Turkey. Born on December 1982, Sultan measures 251 centimeters !  According to the Guinness World Records, Sultan also holds the record for the world largest hands with each one measuring 36.5cm !

9.MOST EXPENSIVE HONEY

According to the Guinness World Records , the most expensive honey sold for £8,700 per kilo,  and was achieved by Ahmet Eren Çakır, Centauri Honey (Turkey) in Istanbul, Turkey, on 16 February 2021.

Creator Ahmet Eren Cakir produces this amazing honey high in the hills above the clouds in the Black Sea region of Turkey, at an altitude of 2,500 metres above sea level. This honey promises to provide health benefits such as anti-cancer , anti-ageing properties and promises to help with many other illnesses. 

10.WORLDS FASTEST WORLD CUP GOAL 

Turkish football legend Hakan Şukur holds the world record for the worlds fastest World cup goal in  2002. The goal was scored in 10.8 seconds after opponents South Korea had taken kick offs. Turkey saw a 3-2 win and went on to finishing 3rd place in the tournament
