Turkish soap opera series have quite simply taken the world by storm. It’s like the Ottoman Empire has dominated the entertainment industry, engaging millions of viewers around the world.
Amongst the many successful series, you will find the latest “Diriliş Ertuğrul” (“Resurrection Ertuğrul”) , which has certainly attracted a huge fan base, particularly in the Muslim world.
Diriliş Ertuğrul has recently achieved a huge milestone , which has been added to the Guinness world records as the best dramatic work to date, with the show reaching 3 billion viewers !! that’s right 3 BILLION ! and has been translated to 39 different languages.
Often described as the Turkish Game of Thrones , this series enters a drama filled plot that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
This series created by Mehmet Bozdağ is set in the 13th century and is based around the main character Ertuğrul, who was the father of Osman (the founder of the Ottoman Empire)
This show is particularly popular in Pakistan , with even the prime minister Imran Khan urging everyone to watch the series.
This Turkish series has also recently broken another world record with the most most Youtube subscribers in a month, and has entered the top 50 most viewed Youtube channels.
But great success also comes with great controversy, with the series being banned in Saudi Arabia, Egypt & United Arab Emirates due to critics claiming is is sending a warped message of Muslim culture and sending what they believe to be political messages.
