The construction of the mansion that dates back to 1922 still remains unfinished because, as per the rumours, construction workers claim they saw the late wife of Ottoman Pasha, Yusuf Ziya.

However, the story took a heartbreaking turn when the Dutch government recalled Calkoen back to the Netherlands. Despite his repeated attempts to return to Turkey, the government didn’t allow him to.

Calkon died at the age of 67 before he could meet Beyazgül again, who also died while waiting for his love at the gates of palais de Hollande. Staff workers have reportedly heard ghostly footsteps, window shutters that move by themselves, and apparitions in the bedrooms at night.
